Jillaire on the Issues

Healthy Families
Access to high-quality health care and the privacy to make one's own health care decisions are critical matters for our state. I support policies that promote access to reproductive care, enhanced health care coverage, and investment in increasing the number of Colorado health care providers.
I’m a mother of four. I understand the sacrifice that you take on when you choose to raise a child. I believe that the decision about when to have children is one women should be able to make with their partner, their doctor, and their God, as applicable. I know that access to abortion is sometimes a matter of life or death, and I believe we need to protect the right that women have to get the care they need and to develop policies that support women, children, and families. I bring a personal perspective to this issue that uniquely qualifies me in this race. I want to be the leader who can promote respect and bring understanding to conversations among different parties. I recognize that there is a deep nuance to this issue that is often missing from the public debate. I will always respectfully engage with those who have different perspectives.
Access to health coverage made it possible for my husband and me to stick with our business and to grow it into a profitable company that now creates high-paying local jobs.
Expanded Medicaid, the Colorado Marketplace, and other assistance to patients are critical. However, that will not be enough if we don’t have the medical providers that we need. There’s especially a shortage of mental health care providers. I want to explore policies to train, attract, and retain more providers in Colorado, especially in our underserved communities.
One specific policy will improve the credit path for students from college high school courses and community college classes when transferring to 4-year universities. There is currently a disconnect where some credits are not transferring and students have to redo coursework, costing more time and tuition and delaying them from entering well-paying healthcare careers that would serve the needs of our state.
